Caterering Breakdown!

Ok.  We have our budget and now we want to pick a reception space.  Do we want to use a facility where we have to bring a catering comapny in?  OR Do we want to use a reception venue that includes everything including the Kitchen sink-Literally!  There are some fantastic caterers in Bloomington Normal and surrounding areas.  These are just a few.  This information should help you realize all the costs involved in hiring a caterer.  Cakes are not included in any of these packages.  We will consider some great cake people.  Stay Tuned!

Things to consider

  1. How is the food served?   Do you have a choice?
  • Buffet Style
  • Plated
  • Family Style

2.  Does the caterer provide linens (tablecloths, napkins, tableskirts), cultery set, real china, water goblet, cup and saucer?

3.  Is there an set up fee, what is it?

4.  Do you provide open (host)  bar options with the cost per person? 

We mentioned a few caterers yesterday, like I said there are so many more that I just cannot include everyone.  Remember these are round about figures.  Please don’t take this as exact.  It all depends upon the menu that you choose and bar style.

Station 220 (Central Station)

Steffan is willing to accomodate you whichever style you choose.  But there many be an added cost if more staff is required, which would be dertermined upon finalizing your options.  So just be aware of that. 

Set up fee  starts at $700  avg for 300 guests, this will vary depending on the size of the reception.

Bar Options Open (Host) bar Steffan is working on several price points per person as we speak,  at this point they use a keg price, per bottle of wine, price per drink.  

Set up Fee $700 includes tablecloths, napkins, tableskirts, silverware , water goblet, cups and saucers.  Bar glassware will actually be clear plasticware. 

Avg cost of Food

You can average at least $700.00 for appetizers

Plated or Bufftet avg is $20/person


Josh and Emily can do either plated or buffet.  There is a $5000 minimum for outside catering.   There are rental fees for tables, chairs, china, tablecloth, napkins, cups, and suacers.   Avg food cost for buffet or plated is approximately $21.95.

Appetizers (will depend upon what you pick)  add another $800.00

Open/Host Bar options Basic 4 hours Add $36. 00/person a lesser option is Beer, Soda, and Wine 4 hours add $28.00/person

Nelson’s Catering

They (Ashley, Sheila, and Jeff) provide a buffet style menu. 

The cost including appetizers is 23.95 to 29.95  add an extra $3.00 for tableware.

No linens are provided.
