How to Choose the Best Dress for Your Body Type
From sweetheart necklines to cap sleeves and empire waists to corset tops, brides can often feel as if they are drowning in dresses! Knowing which dress is best for your body type is one of the most important pieces of knowledge to have when you begin shopping for a dress. Every bride wants to look her very best on her wedding day, so we have gathered the opinions of bloggers, style experts, and bridal gurus to give you an idea of what will look great on you. Find your body type below, and see what the experts have to say about the perfect dress for you!
The Full-Figured Bride:
A-line and empire waist dresses will lengthen your body and flow gently over your flirty curves, and a scoop neck will lie nicely on a larger bust. Going too loose can make your body seem larger, so be sure it fits well!
The Slender Bride:
A ball gown or sheath dress will create beautiful curves on your frame. Look for a bodice with ruching to amp up the volume at the bust area. Try to avoid halter tops, as they can highlight collar bones and give you the “too thin” look.
The Tall Bride:
Look for a dress with a drop waistline and floor-sweeping hem; it will emphasize your divinely long legs without making you seem lanky. Remember to keep it simple – avoid dresses with too many ruffles or other embellishments!
The Petite Bride:
A-line and sheath dresses will lengthen your body fabulously, as will dresses with waistlines above your natural waist. Very full skirts may overwhelm your small frame, so stick with a simple skirt without many embellishments.
The Large-Busted Bride:
Scoop necklines and off-the-shoulder dresses draw attention to your shoulders and upward, so everyone keeps their eyes on the prize — your beautiful face! If you are partial to strapless styles, look for sweetheart necklines, and steer clear of ruched material or fabrics with sheen to them.
The Pear-Shaped Bride
Choose dresses that show off your arms, back and bust line, as these are some of your greatest assets! Corsets are a great choice for you. Avoid pleats, gathered waists, and mermaid styles. A-line styles will look beautiful on your figure!
The Hourglass-Shaped Bride
A drop waist a-line or mermaid style flatter your coveted curves, while a sweetheart neckline will show off your chest. Avoid ball gown or empire waist styles that will hide your figure; show it off!
